Backup is often viewed as simply a basic housekeeping task, however an organisation’s data is its lifeblood and data availability, compliance, storage and security should be at the heart of your IT strategy. Disk backup to tape (D2T) remains the most widely deployed solution however it is very slow to restore data especially server rebuilds, a problem exacerbated by increasing data volumes. Tape is easily susceptible to damage by incorrect storage, for example heat and degrades over time due to constant read/write wear and rewinding through the tape transport mechanism, all factors that lead to media errors.
Disk to Disk (D2D) backup is a far superior backup method and achieves far greater reliability and performance.
